Cassava, also known as manioc, is a plant that grows in tropical climates close to the equator. It is a woody shrub that is widely cultivated in countries close to the equator. The top three (3) countries in the cultivation of cassava are Nigeria, Brazil and Thailand.

Apart for being a major staple food in many parts of Africa, it is also a popular food ingredient in Brazilian cuisine. Typically, cassava roots are processed and milled into locally‑customized versions of flour or meal. As such, they are used in popular traditional dishes or baked and dessert products in this tropical countries where they are grown in abundance.
